Nexus 10 official: Samsung tablet trumps iPad's high-definition display

Google may have cancelled its launch event in New York, scheduled for today, but the company has gone ahead and announced its new products anyway.

The Nexus 10 is the latest large-screen tablet to come with the Nexus branding, rounding out a family that also includes he Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

The Samsung-made device was confirmed by Google on a blogpost talking mostly about the latest Android software, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Nexus 10 will feature a 10-inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution display. That makes it the highest resolution display you'll find on a tablet currently with a staggering 300ppi - putting even Apple's iPad into the shade.

Elsewhere Google boasts that the battery will give you nine hours of video playback and 500 hours of standby time. It will be available in 16 and 32GB options.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean brings with it a range of new features including multiple profiles accessible from the lock screen, gesture typing looking to take on Swype or SwiftKey, enhancements to Google Now and support for Miracast displays, among other features.

We're still awaiting some of the official specs for the new tablet, but we'll update this story when we have more information.

The Nexus 10 will be available from 13 November and the UK. We're yet to confirm UK pricing, but it's $399 for 16GB and $499 for 32GB in the US.
