New app warns you if you have skin cancer

A new smartphone app can help users catch skin cancer in its early stages by looking for tiny differences in moles on the skin.

Doctor Mole uses augmented reality technology to analyse the colour, size and shape of moles so that worried users can spot changes.

Changes in moles can be an early sign of melanoma, a kind of skin cancer.

The app analyses whether moles have changed, and offers an assessment of their risk from 'Low' to 'High', overlaying coloured outlines that highlight changes.

Changes in the colour, borders and size of moles are highlighted automatically by the app.
'Worried about that suspicious looking mole? Skin cancer can affect anyone of any age,' the app's developers say. 'It is quick and easy to use in the privacy of your own home and allows you to save any photo you have taken to compare for evolution changes at a later stage.

The application is available now, free on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone devices.

An in-app purchase allows users to upgrade to a paid version.

The paid version of Doctor Mole also stores a record of your mole over time, which can be useful if you decide to see a doctor, and allows users to add their own notes.

'I have always been worried about skin cancer,' says one user. 'This app gives me great piece of mind.'
